Enhanced Performing Arts Program

Our Program

Our new, enhanced Performing Arts program began in September 2009. The goals of the program are to develop students' creativity, to deepen their understanding of artistic craft, and to build their skills, techniques, and abilities as performers to a more professional level.

Huntington-Surrey students in the program have seven hours of Performing Arts class time per week, including a three-hour workshop period on Friday afternoons, in addition to the regular Huntington-Surrey classes. Performing Arts classes focus on intensive development both of the individual artist and of the ensemble. Students may choose courses in acting, dance, movement, songwriting, playwriting, design, or directing. Activities in the fall are geared towards an end-of-semester showcase of individual work. In the spring, all classes in the program focus on mounting a full-scale production, involving every Performing Arts student.

In addition to these class activities, the Performing Arts program provides students with real-world connections and opportunities to participate in local Austin theatre, including interning and assisting with DA! Theatre Collective.

Head teacher for this program is Kirk German. There are also several invited guest teachers over the course of the year, offering master classes and lectures in their various areas of expertise.

Students interested in participating or finding out more about this dynamic new program should call the school office at (512) 478-4743.
